Manuel Fernández-Alemany:
Chile, the most conservative country in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the most conservative countries in the world, has created, as resistance, a rich, sophisticated, and progressive intellectual and artistic movement in different fields, including the study of gender and sexuality. This book came out as the result of the first seminar on sexuality and homosexuality, which took place in a Chilean university in 1993. This seminar included seven excellent discussion panels presented by specialists from different fields of the social sciences and humanities mainly. The level of the papers varies, having the seminar several papers of excellent level and theoretical sophistication. The following review in Spanish focuses on the aforementioned papers. This analysis takes into consideration the background of Chilean politics and the study of gender and sexuality in Latin America and elsewhere.
