Looking for casual gay sex? Here’s the best apps for easy hookups.

Are you a gay man looking to meet other gay men for casual sex? You may be wondering if it’s best to use general dating apps like Tinder, where you’ll find straight people too, or something designed specifically for LGBT people. We’ve tried some of the biggest sex apps, and here’s the ones we found work the best for gay men.

Why do I need to use a dating app specifically for gay men?

There are plenty of queer dating apps out there, but a few in particular are specifically geared to finding gay men. In the past, you may have used apps like Grindr, but it’s the kind of place you’ll always find a group of guys looking for sex.

You won’t find the same kind of intimacy you can have with a gay person in a larger space like a bar, or a huge party, and the pick-up culture can get exhausting.

If you’re looking to meet guys who are looking to hookup with no strings, sex apps for gay men are your best bet. Read our guide below to find out more about them, and take a sex apps quiz if you’re not sure where to start.

Best Dating Apps For Gay Men

So first, what’s the difference between gay apps and straight apps? The main difference is that apps like Grindr or Tinder are designed for gay men to hook up with other men. If you find a guy you like, you simply add them to your profile.

If you want to be able to find other guys you might be interested in hooking up with, you’ll need a gay sex app. If you’re looking for love, you need to get a specific dating app for that.

Tinder

Tinder is arguably the most popular dating app, but not for the reason you might think. The dating app was founded by a straight guy, but it has an incredible selection of LGBT-friendly features that make it well-suited to our community.

In the main area of the app, you can browse potential matches by LGBTQ identity, but that doesn’t mean the users are necessarily made up of only one type of person. Swipe right if you’re interested in another LGBTQ person, and swipe left if you’re not.

You can also check out the other people on the app by going to your account and hitting “Following,” or typing in a search phrase. It’s easy to use and has a really nice visual interface to it, which has always been something that we’ve loved.

Grindr

The gay hookup app Grindr is your best bet for meeting new gay men—you just have to set your own criteria. If you’re looking for a partner, say you’re in a relationship but your partner is out and wants to see you, Grindr will help you find a guy who’s also looking for a lover.

Or you can simply simply hook up, as long as you’re not into kids, graphic sex, or anything that will get you in trouble at the bar.

Match

Not interested in hooking up? The popular dating app may be able to fulfill your needs in other ways. Match puts you in touch with people who are looking for a serious relationship.

Scruff

Scruff may be the biggest name in gay dating apps, but it’s also the best one for gay men. In fact, it’s one of the best apps for straight people too—but only if you use it right. Scruff is much like any other app in that it allows you to message and find people nearby.

However, there’s one big difference: Instead of ranking people on a scale from 1-5, it grades them based on their proximity to you and their looks. So if you’re looking for a one-night stand or some flirtatious fun with another guy nearby, this is an app that you should check out.

However, Scruff isn’t just about finding sex. It is much more than that, as it also features sections where you can talk to other men, upload photos, and even meet new friends nearby.

Hornet

Hornet’s one of the first apps we know of designed specifically for LGBT people. It has something of a heavy, straight-girl vibe, which makes sense considering its former owner is Grindr (see our handy guide on how to delete Grindr). That said, its interface looks fairly straight-forward and it has plenty of LGBT-specific options for the straight girls among us.

Interestingly, the company that owns Hornet also owns Grindr, which is why you’ll see some very similar features in both apps. For example, you can find the other user’s profile picture (though its settings only allow you to find the guy, not the girl) and you can see their location, gender, and the picture. The section called “Pink” is for gay men, and “Blue” is for straight guys.
