International Gay & Lesbian Review

Afternoon Suburb

by Emily George
abstract

This abstract is from the cover of the book.

Two married women at the beginning of the seventies go through many changes over the years as the ideas of the women's liberation movement bring in new concepts and ways of being.

Rosie finds that it is her strong friendship with another woman which gives her the continuity to persevere with her study and likewise she gives Kathleen reciprocal support with her creative abilities.

It is a book about the choices women have to make for themselves if they are going to live and love in the way that is best for them in a society that doesn't really take them into account in the overall scheme of things.

No absolutes or happy endings but a lot of hard work and some satisfaction in managing to survive through it all.
