Jim Kepner:
Painful and engrossing , this book is a day-by-day account of the author's experience with his lover Roger Horwitz' suffering and death, their slow release from professional concerns and the desperate search for alternate therapies and drugs. This is one of best AIDS books to date. Lawyer Horwitz was the brother of gay Los Angeles attorney, banker, University of California Regent and Democratic power-broker Sheldon Andelson, who has also since died of AIDS complications. Andelson is not at all flatteringly portrayed here. Paul Monette died of AIDS complications in 1995, having gained recognition as one of the best of contemporary gay writers.
