Manuel Fernández-Alemany: Manuel Fernández-Alemany received his Ph.D. in social anthropology from the University of Southern California in 1999, with a dissertation on male homosexuality in Honduras. He then became a Rockefeller Post-doctoral Scholar at the Center for Race and Ethnicity at the University of California, San Diego.
Bridges of Respect is a reference guide written by the American Friends Service Committee. Originally it addressed issues concerning gay and lesbian youth, in the United States mainly. The Spanish translation added new mini chapters written by gay activists from Iberomerica and came in a timely moment of emerging gay politics in Latin America. Today, however, this text proves to be outdated and culturally inappropriate, especially the chapters translated from the original English version.
