The Corporate Closet: The Professional Lives of Gay Men in America

by James D. Wood
abstract

Craig Loftin:

This book considers the unique challenges that gay professionals face in a corporate environment that is overwhelmingly heterosexist. Based on hundreds of interviews of employees, ranging from CEO's to recent college graduates, Woods demonstrates how a homophobic work environment hurts not only gay employees, but the entire office as well. Employees discuss strategies for overcoming the challenges of advancing in an environment where heterosexuality is rewarded. The book is a major challenge to corporate America to recognize the ways in which sexuality exists at a myriad of levels, and the implicit prejudices of its expression.
