Janis Walworth: Janis Walworth has an MS in Counseling from Fitchburg (Massachusetts) State College. She became an activist in the gay liberation movement before Stonewall. She has worked with the transsexual community since 1991 as an activist, writer, counselor, and educator. She and her partner run the Center for Gender Sanity, which offers seminars about transgender issues for therapists, educators, and students; provides consultation and sensitivity training for employers and coworkers of transgendered workers; publishes books on transgender topics; and sponsors international conferences that bridge gaps between the women's, lesbian, and transsexual communities.
The Gay Agenda purports to expose the elements of religious fundamentalist propaganda against gays and provide rebuttals to them. In addition to listing the demands the Christian right attributes to a national gay and lesbian movement, the author touches on the religious beliefs of the founding fathers of the United States, the relationship of the women's liberation and gay rights movements, family values, overpopulation, AIDS, personal autonomy, and the vision of Walt Whitman. He concludes with his own theory about the development of sexual orientation and offers his opinions about the best strategies for those seeking acceptance of gays and lesbians.
